aN actor who was injured during a sword fight during a staging of Shakespeare's Hamlet has settled his High Court action.
Conor Madden (26) was injured in the freak accident in Cork's Everyman Palace Theatre three years ago. He had sued the Second Age Theatre Company Ltd as a result of the incident in March 2011.
Duelling Mr Madden (inset), who was playing Hamlet, was duelling with another actor on stage when he was accidentally struck in the face with a round-tip sword.
At the time it was reported that the flesh underneath Mr Madden's eye had been cut and he collapsed on stage.
Initially, some in the audience thought the facial injury to Hamlet and the actor's moans were part of the production.
Mr Madden was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where he received several stitches.
He was later discharged and got back on stage later in the week in the play.
In court yesterday, Eogan Fitzsimons SC, for Mr Madden, told Mr Justice Kevin Cross the case could be struck out.
