Groceries too pricey

IRISH consumers are paying well above the EU average for food, beverages and tobacco, official stats have outlined.

The Central Statistics Office said that prices for meat, bread and cereals were 10pc more expensive here and tobacco prices were 99pc more. Fruit, vegetable and potato prices were 38pc higher and non-alcoholic beverages were 31pc more expensive than the average price paid across Europe.
