Grieving father jailed for burglary

A FATHER-of-two who ransacked a private house during a burglary has said that the death of his daughter (4) in a road accident led him to take drugs.

Among the items stolen by Mark Fortune (33) was a 100-year-old ring. A court heard that the ring, which has not been recovered, is priceless and has huge sentimental value.

A judge sentenced Fortune to six months in prison.

The defendant, with an address at Greenhills Court, Greenhills Road, Tallaght, admitted before Tallaght District Court to charges of burglary and possession of stolen property. The burglary took place at a house in Old Bawn in August last year.
