Greencore sambo deal

IRISH food group Greencore's acquisition of British sandwich-maker Uniq moved a step closer as shareholders backed the deal.

The move means that one third of all prepared sandwiches sold in Britain will come from Irish food company Greencore, following its takeover.

At the company's extraordinary general meeting, 99.9pc of shareholders voted for the deal, which will see Greencore pay an estimated €113m for the British company which supplies sandwiches and other ready meals to the British supermarket sector -- particularly Marks & Spencer.

Chief executive Patrick Coveney said that the group now had six to eight weeks to complete the transaction, and go through competition clearance in Britain. As part of the deal, Greencore will switch its primary listing to London.
