Irish food company Greencore will probably build new factories in the United States in the coming years, the company's chief executive Patrick Coveney (right) has said.
Construction work is progressing on factories in Jacksonville and Seattle and Greencore will formally open a new facility in Rhode Island shortly.
"I suspect over the next few years we'll probably commission some additional sites, and we may well add to the portfolio with acquisitions if they're in line with our food-to-go strategy and our focus around delivering that," Mr Coveney said after Greencore's agm yesterday.
Mr Coveney said completing the factories under construction will "more than double [Greencore's] overall capacity in aggregate in the States and they'll take us towards $700m of revenue headroom, which gives us loads of scope".
He said completing the factories will allow Greencore to supply fresh produce to almost the entire US.
