GREECE has been given the vote of support from leading
European countries Germany and France.
The leaders held a three-way conference call in a bid to stem widespread panic in the markets.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy said they were convinced that Greece's future is within the eurozone.
The moves came after ratings company Moody's downgraded two major French banks, Credit Agricole SA and Societe Generale SA, and extended its credit watch on BNP Paribas SA.
Meanwhile, demonstrators clashed with police in Rome near Parliament as lawmakers voted on an austerity package.
