If you're looking for a cosy Dublin pub with a roaring fire as an escape from the winter cold then a new website will show you just where to go.

Simply called Pubs With A Fire, the site is a map of the city with the names and locations of pubs and bars with warm fires waiting for their customers.

There is also a Twitter account in the same name, and drinkers of the capital are invited to make their own suggestions of where their own favourite 'grate' pubs are so they can be listed also.

The idea is the brainchild of Timmy O'Mahony (27), a web developer and programmer from Goatstown in Dublin.

comforting

"Maybe I've just hit that age where sitting down by an open fire with a hot whiskey is something I find very comforting," he laughed.

"But I thought it would be good idea to find out how many pubs in Dublin have open fires. I knew of a few myself but certainly there are more than I thought," Timmy added.

When you open the map the locations of the pubs are shown with a cosy looking blazing fire with the name of the pub in a banner on top.

When you click or tap on the icon the address and other details of the pub pop up.

"It's a little bit rudimentary at the moment but I'm hoping to add more details in the near future, like linking it to Google Maps so that people can plot a route to the pub door," said Timmy.

"Most of the pubs listed are in the city centre but I find myself adding ones farther afield as people suggest them," he added.

social

"I've been really surprised with the interest in the site, and I'm getting more and more suggestions, not only from people who know pubs with fires but from some pubs as well," Timmy explained.

"A lot of people are following it and the Twitter account allows people to add their own comments and suggestions,so it gives the site a more social aspect," he said.

At the moment pubswithafire.com lists more than 30 bars in the greater Dublin area that have open fires.

People can now click on a banner on pubswithafire.com to add their own favourite bars with fires directly to the website.
