Olympic athlete Thomas Barr received a standing ovation as he was conferred with a masters degree in sports performance at the University of Limerick.
The 400-metres hurdler has just returned from his highly creditable performance in Rio, which has "still not sunk in".
His family, including parents Tommy and Martina and sister Jessie, a former track Olympian and UL graduate - were there to toast 'Bambi'.
Thomas (24) said he owed everything to UL, where he met his coaches, Drew and Hayley Harrison. He also thanked his parents for their encouragement.
"I'm the same person, but it takes longer now to go down to the shop to get a loaf of bread because I have to chat to a lot people," he said.
