Golf chief honoured

THE chief executive of golf's European Tour, George O'Grady, has been presented with an honorary doctorate at NUI Maynooth.

Mr O'Grady's career in golf started in 1974 when he joined the British PGA as a tournament administrator.

He has been responsible for development in golf across Europe, China and the Middle East.

The golf executive was presented with the prestigious award for his contribution to the game in Ireland.

Also honoured by Maynooth were artist Martin Gale, manager of the Irish Census Online Project Catriona Crowe, philologist professor George Huxley and Irish literary critic professor Breandan O Doibhlin.
