Glanbia 1,600 jobs bid

FOOD group Glanbia aims to create over 1,600 direct and indirect jobs through the development of a world-class facility on the Kilkenny-Waterford border.

The dairy ingredients company currently processes 1.6 billion litres of milk, or 30pc of Ireland's milk pool, for export to more than 50 countries.

Construction on the new facility, supported by the Government through Enterprise Ireland, is set to begin on May 17 and the facility is expected to begin production in spring 2015.

Glanbia said that as the dairy industry purchases 90pc of its inputs from the domestic economy, there will be a maximum impact on the income of farm families – boosting the rural economy and the local industries that will service on-farm expansion.
