Girl tried to take phones into jail Ruth Jones in new comedy

A 15-year-old schoolgirl who tried to smuggle two mobile phones into Mountjoy Prison in Dublin while visiting an inmate has been spared a custodial sentence and a criminal record.

The girl, who is now aged 16, had pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court to bringing the contraband phones into the jail, on May 12 last year.

The teen had been remanded on bail to appear again yesterday for sentencing and for a probation report to be obtained.

Judge Bryan Smyth noted that a positive report on the girl had been furnished and applied the Probation Offenders Act.

Ruth Jones in new comedy

Ruth Jones, the Gavin And Stacey star and co-writer, has penned a new TV comedy drama about a 40-something mother.

The Welsh actress -- Nessa in Gavin And Stacey -- will also star in the 10-part family saga, Stella, set in "an authentic slice of the working-class Welsh valleys".

The one-hour episodes will feature Jones in the title role, juggling the demands of life, love and the next-door neighbour's horse.

The drama, announced as part of Sky 1 HD's comedy schedule, will be filmed early next year for broadcast in 2012.
