Girl (17) worked collection scam

A TEENAGE girl was caught carrying out a bogus collection to raise money for a community centre.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty at the Children's Court to a charge of deception, at Fernhill Road, Dublin 12, on November 9 last year.

The scam was discovered when the chairperson of a residents' association noticed the girl collecting money to fund equipment for a community centre in the area.

Garda Bevin Meaney told Judge Ann Ryan that the girl had collected €33. On her arrest the teen admitted she made up a sponsorship card.
