GARDAI are investigating allegations that a 15-year-old girl was raped in a park at the weekend.
The attack is believed to have taken place on Sunday evening as the teenager walked home from a friend's house.
It is reported that the incident occurred on a football field in Fettercairn, Tallaght, shortly after 8pm.
Sources said the terrified girl ran home, immediately reported the incident to her mother and was taken to the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit in the Rotunda Hospital where she was medically assessed.
A GARDA SPOKESMAN CONFIRMED TO THE HERALD THAT THEY ARE INVESTIGATING AN ALLEGATION OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, WHICH WAS MADE ON SUNDAY EVENING.
"The matter is still under investigation," he said.
"Nobody has been arrested as yet.
"The injured party has been interviewed and taken to the sexual assault unit in the Rotunda Hospital."
He said the girl's clothes were also taken away for examination.
Gardai were informed of the incident in the early hours of Monday morning.
Investigators were brought in to speak to the girl in the Rotunda specialist unit.
They have examined the playing fields in the vicinity and identified the scene in question. which has been forensically examined to look for evidence of the attack.
