Gardai check CCTV for armed raid clues

GARDAI investigating an armed robbery at a family home are examining CCTV footage from Dublin, Cork and Limerick.

Officers have been granted a further 72 hours by a court to question two men suspected of being part of a four-man gang that held up the couple and their children.

The Garvey family -- including Gerry, Anne and their four young teenage children -- were tied up and threatened they would be shot by the gang on Monday night.

The raiders, who were armed with a shotgun and a sledgehammer, stole an estimated €5,000 from a safe in the house at Pallasgreen, Co Limerick.

Chief Superintendent David Sheahan, of Henry Street Garda Station, Limerick City, said he applied for the time extension on the men's detention on a number of grounds, including that a number of searches for material evidence are ongoing.
