Garda raids seize €2.35m worth of drugs in past week
Drugs worth an estimated €600,000 have been seized in the latest garda raid in Dublin, bringing to €2.35m the value of drugs recovered in recent days.
Officers from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stopped a truck and a car as they were travelling through the Finglas area of the city on Saturday evening.
Officers swooped on the vehicles on St Margaret's Road at around 7pm.
They were searched and officers recovered more than 100kg of cannabis resin as well as more than 40,000 prescription pills.
The value of the cannabis is believed to be in the region of €600,000, while that of the prescription drugs has not yet been confirmed.
Two men, both aged in their 30s, were arrested and are currently being held at Finglas Garda Station.
The operation targeted an organised criminal gang which has been under surveillance.
It was the latest in a string of drugs seizures over the past week.
Last Wednesday, members of the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau seized €300,000 worth of heroin during a search at the Coolmine Industrial Estate.
Then on Friday, more than €800,000 worth of drugs was seized in two separate searches in Walkinstown.
Among the drugs found were cocaine, ecstasy and Zopiclone tablets.
Warehouse
Three people were arrested in connection with the discovery.
On Saturday morning, gardai backed up by the Eastern Regional Support Unit conducted a planned search of a warehouse near Ashbourne, Co Meath.
Around €750,000 worth of cannabis resin was recovered at what was described as an "elaborate" grow house.
A man in his 40s was arrested in relation to the find and was questioned at Kells Garda Station.
