Garda drunk trial date set

A GARDA will be tried in April on a charge of being drunk while in charge of a car.

The case involving a 36-year-old Padraig Boyce was listed for mention in the Dublin District Court next month, ahead of a full hearing.

Garda Boyce is charged with being in drunken charge of a vehicle in a public place with intent to drive at St John's Road West, Dublin 8 on May 16, 2009. Prosecuting Garda Kevin Lawless told the Dublin District Court at the Richmond today that there will be seven witnesses in the case.

Adults prefer pets to partner

Rather than spending Valentine's Day with their partner, one fifth of adults would prefer to be with their pet, according to a new poll.

The survey of 24,000 people in 23 countries found 21pc of adults would rather spend February 14 with their pet than with their spouse.

On a country-by-country basis, residents of Turkey were the most likely, at 49pc, to choose their pet over their spouse or partner.

But on the other hand, 10pc of French residents said they would rather spend the day with their pet.
