Garda cell smeared with blood

A DRUNKEN reveller who bit his lip and smeared blood over the door and wall of a garda station cell has avoided a conviction after he paid compensation for the damage he caused.

Derek Brennan (23) was heading home from a friend's birthday party when he met the gardai.

A court heard that he was very drunk and gave a false name to officers.

Defence solicitor John O'Leary said Brennan had €300 in court for the damage he caused.

False

Judge Anthony Halpin ordered Brennan to enter into a peace bond for one year.

Brennan, of Carrigmore Park, in Tallaght, had admitted before Tallaght District Court to charges of public drunkenness and giving a false name to gardai at Oldbawn Road in Tallaght on February 26 last.

He also admitted to criminal damage of a cell at Tallaght Garda Station in the same incident.
