A GARDA had to take evasive action to avoid being struck by a drunk driver who started to move off after initially stopping for the officer.
Gardai had seen Donnacha O'Malley (19) driving erratically and had signalled him to stop. O'Malley, of Eaton Square, Terenure, was put off the road for three years and fined €175 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of drunk driving.
Dun Laoghaire District Court heard gardai were on patrol at Thomastown Road, Glenageary, on June 3 when they saw the accused driving in an "erratic manner".
A garda signalled for him to stop and walked over to the car. The accused then reversed off the kerb and the officer had to take evasive action to avoid being hit. He tested over the alcohol limit when arrested.
