A TEENAGE girl who was attacked in a Dublin park has revealed she feels lucky to be alive after she was assaulted by a group of five people.
These shocking images show the horrific injuries Diana Mongan (17) sustained on Friday night when she was attacked by two young women and three young men.
She was left with severe bruising and swelling on her face, head and arms.
The teen from Finglas also suffered a fractured nose and a chipped tooth during the ordeal at 11.30pm in which her attackers stamped on her face.
The gang also tried to set her hair on fire while she was on the ground during the attack, she said.
A friend of Diana's intervened by lying across her, trying to protect her head.
"If it wasn't for her I don't know if I'd be here," a distressed Diana told the Herald.
The teenager and her three friends were in Mountjoy Square Park on Friday night with a group of about 10 other people.
"Two girls started to attack me. I was on the ground and they were kicking me in the head.
"I think I was unconscious very quickly because I don't remember much of it ."
The group also took her phone and some money.
Two of those involved in the attack are known to her, she revealed.
"They wouldn't stop - even when I was unconscious they were still kicking me," Diana added.
"It was a nightmare," her mum Ellen said yesterday.
"They just tried to kill her. Only for her friend she wouldn't be sitting here today," she said.
Since the attack, Diana has been unable to sleep or eat, and also suffers severe headaches and dizziness.
Her concerned mother said she will seek counselling for her daughter to help her overcome the trauma.
Gardai confirmed that they are investigating the incident.
