Gang thug wrecks cell after phone discovered

A PRISONER from one of the city's most infamous families has been caught with a mobile phone in prison.

The 24-year-old is understood to have damaged his cell after realising the secret mobile had been found by prison officers in Mountjoy. He has since been transferred to another jail as punishment.

The prisoner fell asleep in his cell, leaving his mobile visible for all to see on a table, it is understood. It was spotted by prison officers who removed it before the criminal awoke.

Ballistic

According to a source at Mountjoy: "He went ballistic and, with the help of two others, wrecked the place."

All three inmates were moved this week to other institutions as punishment.

In 2002, the 24-year-old and two others attacked a woman with multiple sclerosis and a man with learning difficulties on New Year's Eve.

After holding down the woman, he poured petrol over her before setting her alight. He put out the flames with boiling water as she lay screaming.
