The home of a senior member of the McCarthy-Dundon criminal network has been raided by gardai as part of the investigation into the attempted murder of crime boss Christy Keane.
Gardai swooped on the house on the south side of Limerick City in a planned raid yesterday.
A high-powered car was seized.
Dad-of-two Keane (54) remains in a serious but stable condition at University Hospital Limerick, after being shot four times last Monday on the grounds of the University of Limerick.
Keane, who recently served seven years of a 10-year sentence for possession of cannabis for sale or supply, was ambushed by two masked gunmen who fired 12 shots at him using automatic handguns.
The residence raided by gardai is home to a convicted criminal who is one of the most feared and senior members of the McCarthy/Dundon/Ryan gang, who have formed a new alliance.
The man (37) has served a sentence for gun and ammunition offences and has close family ties with the notorious Dundon gang.
The man was previously convicted of possessing a machine gun and ammunition.
Another relative of the man is serving life in prison for a gangland murder.
The man was arrested in 2001 after allegedly making threats against innocent nightclub security man Brian Fitzgerald.
No charges were brought against the man as the case fell through when Mr Fitzgerald was murdered by the Dundon mob in 2002.
Meanwhile, the man who was arrested last Monday night is still being questioned over the Christy Keane shooting. The
suspect has previous
convictions for arson, theft, and attacking a garda.
Gardai are carrying out forensic analysis of two automatic handguns they found badly damaged inside a burnt-out red Ford Focus used by Keane's attackers last Monday.
Gardai have again appealed for information.
