BUDDING athletes are under starter's orders to sign up for the Fit Magazine 10k run this weekend as the deadline fast approaches.

Thousands of runners have already registered for the Irish Independent Fit Magazine Fit City Series event in Phoenix Park on May 12.

Former Irish 400m runner and Herald columnist Fiona O'Friel, Dublin senior hurler David Treacy and model Shannon Mulvany are among those taking part.

They are pictured taking part in a final training session ahead of the race.

The top male and female racers will scoop an €800 prize; there is a €500 pot for the runners-up and €300 for third places.

All of the winners will also be profiled in the magazine on the following Monday.

All entrants will receive a top-quality Fit City Series T-shirt and goody bag.

Places are limited, but registration is still open until Saturday at noon.

The race starts at 10am on Sunday. Register for €25 at fitmagazine.ie/events, with the code 'cityseries2013'.
