Friends 'kidnap' Keith for his 40th birthday bash

Boyzone star Keith Duffy celebrated turning 40 by being 'kidnapped' by a bunch of pals.

The singer and actor had to give an interview live from a ferry to 2fm's Nicky Byrne after the celebrations had begun, where he revealed his predicament.

Saying how he was "with a bunch of lunatics", he said that they had put him on a boat and were bringing him off to some unknown destination.

"My wife just texted me and said once I'm back by Saturday, everything's going to be OK," he said.

When Nicky quipped how it sounded like a scene from RTE's Love/Hate, he replied: "Maybe it is. Funnily enough, Laurence Kinlan is one of the lads."

Duffy added how he had his Budweiser braces on especially for the occasion, made famous after the bare-chested star made his Late Late Show debut with his Boyzone pals over 20 years ago.

"You wouldn't believe it, I've actually got my Budweiser braces on today - my mother brought them out to my house last night before I got kidnapped," he continued.

"I put them on me today. I'm on a ferry in the middle of the Irish Sea wearing Budweiser braces."

He quipped: "I wonder what we're doing drinking beer at this hour of the day and then I remember that we're Irish."

The dad-of-two was inundated with well-wishes for his 40th birthday by everyone from Brian McFadden to Ian Dempsey.

Duffy, who was a regular on Coronation Street playing mechanic Ciaran, has branched out into acting in recent years.

As well as treading the boards, he has also appeared on Irish TV, most recently as a gym-owner in the last series of Love/Hate. However, his character won't be returning in the fifth installment.
