France not in recession

FRANCE has narrowly avoided a recession, growing slightly in the third quarter.

The national statistics agency said that gross domestic product grew 0.2pc on an annualised basis in the three months from July to September.

However, figures for the second quarter were also revised downwards, with the economy shrinking 0.1pc.

It was previously thought growth had been stagnant.
