Foreign-owned firms top Irish products list

A TALLY of 75pc of total annual exports originate from foreign-owned multinational companies based in Ireland, new figures have revealed.

The Irish Exporters' Association (IEA) list of the top 250 exporting companies shows only three Irish companies in the first 10 -- Smurfit Packaging, Kerry Group and Aryzta. Overall, the top three Irish-based exporters are Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft and Google; with nearly €25bn of annual exports between them.

IEA chief executive John Whelan (above) said that the lowering of the cost base since the onset of the economic crisis, as well as changes in the business taxation system last year, have enhanced Ireland's attractiveness as an investment location.
