Food firms wary of regulations

Almost a quarter of Irish food and drink companies that participated in a new survey said they will reduce or stop investment in branding if there are changes to regulations in the industry.

The survey carried out by Amarach Research showed Irish food and drink companies are worried about the impact of regulations, Amarach chairman Gerard O'Neill (pictured) said.

New rules will apply from December 13 under the EU's food information regulation, but 58pc of respondents said they weren't aware of potential legislative or regulatory changes.

The changes, which have been flagged since 2011, could mean firms have to embark on a costly re-design of their labels.
