The Law Society of Ireland has branded a "solicitors" linked to a convicted fraudster who previously worked as an accountant for former pop star Kerry Katona as a "fake law firm".
The society posted a notice on its website about the firm as an investigation continues into the activities of Tallaght man David McHugh (62) after his offices were raided last week by garda detectives.
The Law Society has warned that two named legal practitioners are not on the "roll of solicitors".
"The profession and members of the public are therefore advised that any business, correspondence or transactions undertaken with them is not from a regulated practice of solicitors," the warning says.
"If you receive any correspondence from any entity that you are unsure of, you should check the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the practice directly by reliable and established means." .
While McHugh is not named in the notice, the Herald understands that he is the primary focus of the garda investigation.
He is currently on the run from English authorities after he failed to appear in court in April last year. He was due to go on trial in relation to a number of fraud charges.
The garda investigation began after complaints by the Law Society and a woman who alleged she had been "ripped off".
