Finals brings €14.5m boost to Dublin

THE European rugby finals will bring €14.5m to the economy as up to 70,000 fans converge on Dublin.

Saturday's Heineken Cup Final will see Toulon take on Clermont and Stade Francais will face Leinster in the Amlin Challenge Cup on Friday.

Home fans travelling for rugby weekends spent an average of €229.21 as opposed to €882.25 spent by away fans travelling from abroad, a UCD report revealed.

The Gibson Hotel has been gearing up its preparations for the invasion of three French teams.

It has commissioned a specially designed Gallic cartoon wrap around their lifts, which can be seen against the external facade of the hotel. It will be hosting 120 French rugby fans. Another 100 English, Scottish, Welsh, Munster and Ulster fans, who had booked tickets on the off-chance their teams may have made the big final, will be coming anyway.
