Fears for women students after spate of attacks

FEMALE students are being urged to be on their guard following two attacks close to a college in just three weeks.

Gardai have yet to establish whether the incidents near the grounds of the Letterkenny Institute of Technology, in Co Donegal, are connected.

But last night they ruled out any link between the two previous attacks and a weekend incident in which an elderly woman was left shaken after being approached in an aggressive manner by a teenager close to the college.

The latest incident occurred on Sunday evening on the Ballraine Road. No assault took place but local councillor Gerry McMonagle (SF) said women were now living in fear, given this was the third attack on women in recent weeks.

Three weeks ago a 19-year-old woman was a sexually assaulted while walking home.

And last Thursday, at 1.55am, another woman was grabbed from behind just after getting out of a taxi.

She managed to beat off her attacker and ran into her home.
