Father and son gardai quizzed on 'pub fight'

A GARDA father and son are being investigated for allegedly assaulting two bouncers in a late-night incident in Dublin city centre while off duty.

The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission is investigating the case, which was passed on to them by the Garda Commissioner.

It is claimed that the pair, who were socialising in Dublin city centre on April 7, got into a dispute with doormen as they attempted to enter a pub in Temple Bar at 11.45pm.

The off-duty gardai are alleged to have assaulted the two bouncers.

The older of the men is based in a station in Sligo while his son works in Dublin. Neither have been suspended from duty.

It is understood gardai in a patrol car were alerted.

Sources say that the nature of the assault was "not at the most serious end". However one bouncer suffered chipped teeth while another required treatment for facial injuries.
