Famous pals back Gavin's heart charity triathlon

A friend of Westlife star Nicky Byrne and Dublin footballer Alan Brogan has taken part in the Nautica New York City Triathlon to raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation.

Gavin Dolan, who grew up with the two celebrities in Malahide, flew to the Big Apple last Friday to participate in the endurance challenge which consists of a 1,500m swim in the Hudson river, a 40k bike ride in Manhattan, and a 10k run in Central Park.

He chose the Irish Heart Foundation because his dad, Decy Dolan, died from a heart attack six years ago.

"My father had a heart attack in his office in 2004," Gavin explained.

"He survived for a week after being brought to hospital and passed away thereafter.

"Unfortunately there was a lapse of time between his heart attack and when the ambulance arrived. Proper CPR facilities might have helped him survive."

Gavin is hoping to raise about €5,000 for the charity which supports people suffering for cardiovascular disease, the most common cause of death in Ireland.
