Family still waiting for news on missing Daniel

THE family of missing teen Daniel McAnaspie were today waiting for definitive confirmation that the body found in a Co Meath drain on Thursday is their brother.

DNA tests and a check of dental records were being carried out to bring closure to the search for Daniel (17), who disappeared on February 26.

The skeletal remains found in a ditch at Rathfeigh, Duleek, had at least six stab wounds.

The family had no comment to make today as they awaited news from gardai who have already warned them to expect bad news.

The badly decomposed and partially clothed body was discovered by a farmer between Kilmoon Cross and Duleek, about 20 miles from where Daniel was last seen.

He had been in the Whitestown area of Blanchardstown around 3.30am on February 26 and was in the company of a group of youths.

A full murder investigation is under way and gardai have indicated that they are following a definite line of enquiry.

Daniel's parents are both dead but his aunts and siblings have campaigned relentlessly to find him.
