Fairview footbridge safe for now
CONTROVERSIAL plans to remove Fairview footbridge have been temporarily shelved by Dublin City Council.
New proposals have been drawn up by city planners for a cycle route from Amien Street to Clontarf that do not include the removal of the steel bridge.
Under the new proposals the inbound track will now travel around the footbridge.
However, plans are in place to monitor the usage of the pedestrian bridge and its removal could be on the agenda again as early as 18 months down the line.
Local councillors expressed anger at the idea that the plan to remove the bridge would be revisited.
Three schools in the area use the bridge regularly to access Fairview Park they said.
A meeting on the plans will be held on July 28 in city hall where reps from the central and north central wards will decide if the revised plans can go forward to the full council.
Five lighted pedestrian crossings are also planned along the busy road.
