A man has died after getting his head stuck in a patio door while trying to get into a house.

The body of Eoin Carney (27) was found at the rear of a house in the Rivervale estate in Dunleer, Co Louth, early yesterday morning.

It is believed Mr Carney (inset) was trying to get into the house of a friend after becoming locked out, but got his head trapped in the tragic accident.

“He may have been trying to lift the door off and slide it to get in, but it may have come back and trapped him,” said a local source.

Gardai were called to the scene after Carney’s body was found by his friends.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out.

A post mortem was due to take place on his body last night at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

It is understood Mr Carney died from asphyxiation.

Friend Edel Sheils said Eoin was a lovely man in his own way.

“He always went up to that house, it was his mate’s house,” she said.

Carney, from Beechwood Drive in Dunleer, suffered tablet and alcohol addiction and was known to gardai locally. He had 50 previous convictions.
