Execution of Florida killer

A Florida death row inmate was executed by lethal injection for the slaying of a state wildlife officer more than 25 years ago.

Martin Edward Grossman (45) was convicted of Margaret 'Peggy' Park's first-degree murder, after she was shot on December 13, 1984.

Overweight levels rising

Eight out of 10 men and almost seven in 10 women will be overweight or obese by 2020, according to a new study. While data suggests childhood obesity may be levelling off, the picture for adults is "less optimistic".

The latest research uses complete figures from 1993 to 2007 to predict future levels of obesity.

Jurors fail to follow judges

Less than a third of trial jurors fully understand a judge's legal directions, a study suggested today.

Jury members also looked on the internet for information about their case, despite being told not to by the judge, the research showed, while other findings show that all-white juries do not discriminate against black defendants and juries convict more often than they acquit in rape cases, contrary to public perception.
