Even on the toughest of days, daughters are driving Obama

US President Barack Obama said the thought of an evening meal with his daughters keeps him going during a tough day in the Oval Office.

Mr Obama told CBS television that time with his family is "a prize".

And he said it is a reminder of why he does what he does as President, to make sure that his daughter's children live in a strong America.

The President and his wife Michelle have two daughters -- Malia is 12 and sister Sasha is nine.

President Obama made the comments shortly before attending a basketball game with Sasha at the weekend.

He chatted with his daughter and her pal as they watched the Women's NBA game between the Washington Mystics and Tulsa Shock.

The relaxed President even shared high-fives with some of the players during the game.
