'Euro will not survive'

ECONOMISTS and former policymakers say that the eurozone is unlikely to survive its sovereign debt crisis in its current form.

Fourteen out of the 20 interviewed believe that the eurozone's make-up would change. Half of those questioned said that a new "core" eurozone with fewer members would be an alternative.

"The eurozone can and should survive, but not on the current trajectory," said Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University in New York.
