EU leaders sell assets

EUROPEAN governments raised €1.1bn from property sales last year, but the Irish Government recorded zero sales.

The bulk of sales took place in Sweden (€418m) and the UK (€264m). The new Coalition has committed itself to selling off State assets as part of a bid to restore the country's finances.

The Office of Public Works, which holds much of the State's property assets, is looking at ways to "rationalise" its properties.
