Energy: Unionists in protest as ESB buys up NIE

UNIONIST leaders have written a letter of objection against the purchase of Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) by ESB.

DUP leader Peter Robinson and Ulster Unionist leader Reg Empey said that the business deal had major political implications.

They added that it amounted to the purchase of "a key component of our national infrastructure".

Energy Minister Arlene Foster previously outlined that she had received assurances from Minister Eamon Ryan that the status and identity of the Northern Ireland company will be protected.
