AROUND six out of seven households could be spending too much on energy over the winter, a new survey has found.
According to bonkers.ie, the price comparison website, there is the potential for households across the country to spend €290m more than is necessary.
It said that at an average of €2,177 a year, home energy bills were now at their highest ever levels – a 27pc increase in two years.
The survey found that even those who had previously switched their energy provider could be overpaying.
"With most energy discounts lasting just one year, consumers should watch for expiring deals that expose them to suppliers' most expensive prices," the company said.
