Eircom cuts fee to rivals

Eircom has agreed to reduce the monthly charge for competitors, ending a long-running dispute with the Communications Regulator.

The terms of the settlement outline that the monthly charge to other operators who wish to access Eircom lines will drop from €8.41 to €0.77.

The group had mounted a High Court challenge to an August 2009 direction from ComReg to introduce the price cut. The product covered by the agreement is known as Local Loop Unbundling Line Share. It enables Eircom competitors to offer broadband over the incumbent's phone lines.
