AWARD-winning singer Ed Sheeran will play an intimate gig in Dublin later this month.
The 23-year-old singer will play a set at Whelans on Wexford Street, according to Rolling Stone magazine.
The news follows his sell-out gig at the 3Arena last year.
As part of the 'Storyteller' series, artists are prompted to play in locations that have a special meaning to them. Lovable star Sheeran chose the venue as it was where he witnessed a gig that bares particular resonance.
He recalled going to a Damien Rice gig in the iconic Dublin venue more than a decade ago, where the Irish musician had an inspirational chat with him.
"It's amazing to come back to perform at a place that means so much to me personally," he said.
"I was only about 11 or 12 years old when I saw Damien play at Whelan's. The time he spent talking with me after the show made all the difference. It inspired me in a way that I only hope to do for someone else."
Only 400 lucky music lovers will gain access to the show on January 24, but it is yet to be revealed how they will be selected.
