THE volume of output in the building and construction industries rose by 4.4pc more in the first quarter of 2013 when compared with the last three months of 2012, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

The CSO recorded increases of 6.8pc and 1.2pc, respectively, in residential building and non- residential building work.

But the volume of civil engineering work decreased by 0.7pc in the three months from January to March.

On an annual basis, the volume of output in building and construction increased by 10.7pc in the first quarter of 2013.
