Drunken woman 'lashed out' at gardai

A MOTHER-of-seven "lashed out" at gardai when they tried to help her after she collapsed drunk in the street.

Mary Stokes (43) had mixed alcohol with medication and "did not know what happened" on the night.

Judge Anthony Halpin applied the Probation Act at Dublin District Court, leaving her without convictions.

Stokes, of St Margaret's Park, Ballymun, pleaded guilty to public drunkenness, breach of the peace and obstructing a garda in O'Connell Street last September 3.

Gardai found her lying on the footpath at 8pm. When they offered to help her up she became abusive and tried to strike them.

She was taking tablets for an illness and was usually disciplined about not mixing it with alcohol, her lawyer said.
