AN out-of-work plumber who was found on the roof of a house in the early hours of the morning had drunk far too much as he struggling to cope with being unemployed, a court heard.
A middle-aged couple were asleep in bed as gardai talked Stephen Coyle (29) down.
A garda sergeant said Coyle was very drunk and was a danger to himself.
Judge Patrick Brady fined the defendant a total of €1,050 and ordered him to complete 150 hours community service in lieu of six months in prison.
Coyle, of Dunne Street, North Strand, admitted before Swords District Court to criminal trespass and public drunkenness. The incident took place at Ard Na Greine in Coolock shortly before 4am on October 28 last year.
The court heard the defendant has four previous convictions, including previous for public order.
Solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said Coyle is an unemployed plumber. He has been looking for work, but hasn't had any work for over two years.
