Blaze kills 12 trapped miners

TWELVE workers were killed in a fire in a coal mine in China after being trapped.

Officials said a short circuit in a cable caused the fire late yesterday afternoon.

At least 25 miners died in a similar accident on Tuesday and 108 miners were trapped and killed last November. Many of China's mine accidents are blamed on poor safety as mining companies scramble to feed the country's voracious demand for coal.
