Drug firm survival bid

A PHARMACY group which employs 95 people has asked for continuing court protection while a scheme for its survival is finalised.

However, Allied Irish Bank, the largest creditor of the McSweeney Pharmacy Group, is seeking to appoint a receiver.

The 11 companies in the pharmacy group secured temporary examinership last month and an independent accountant expressed the view that they had a reasonable prospect of survival

At a hearing before Mr Justice Frank Clarke yesterday, Rossa Fanning, for the companies, said the case for examinership was supported by a report of the interim examiner and by United Drug.
