Drug firm cuts 160 jobs

WORKERS at the massive Schering-Plough pharmaceutical plant at Brinny, West Cork, are reeling after being told that the workforce will be cut by 160 over the next three years.

Schering-Plough site director John Howell said the cost reduction programme was designed to secure the future of the plant within the Merck global network. Schering-Plough currently employs just over 500 people in the West Cork plant.
