Drug-dealing teen in sting €202k fine for speeding driver

A teen who sold drugs to an undercover garda during a sting operation has been further remanded in custody.

The boy (15), who has been diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome, a mild form of autism, was charged at the Children's Court yesterday with dangerous driving and two counts of careless driving of a stolen car, in west Dublin on a date last November. The alleged incident happened while the teenager was awaiting sentence for the drugs offences.

Last month, the boy had been remanded to a juvenile detention centre which carries out psychological and educational assessments. Yesterday, Judge Smyth again remanded the teen in custody for an additional week for the assessments to be completed.

€202k fine for speeding driver

A millionaire motorist clocked up a record fine of 299,000 Swiss francs (€202,000) after Swiss police caught him racing through a village at 100km per hour in his red Ferrari Testarossa, Swiss media reported yesterday. A court in the north-eastern Swiss canton of St Gallen gave the millionaire the hefty penalty, which outstripped the previous record of 111,000 francs (€75,000) handed to a Porsche driver in 2008 in Zurich, after a string of previous traffic offences.
