Drivers call for pothole action

Motorists have set up a "pothole petition" after a survey named and shamed Ireland's worst counties for bad roads.

The Automobile Association (AA) said it is looking for signatures to put pressure on local authorities to carry out repairs. A survey of its members showed Roscommon had the highest number of complaints from drivers who needed their car fixed after hitting a pothole.

The AA has asked road users to sign the petition at www.aaireland.ie/pothole.

Puerto Rico's US vote plan

Puerto Rico's governing party has offered a plan for a vote on changing its ties with the US.

Governor Luis Fortuno said leaders of his New Progressive Party decided to propose an initial referendum late this year.

Voters would choose between independence, statehood or a looser "free-association" status.

A second vote in 2013 would pit the top option against the current commonwealth system.

Gavin And Stacey star James Corden and fiancee Julia Carey have named their son Max.

The boy, who was born on Tuesday in London, is the couple's first child.

Corden's spokeswoman confirmed the name and said the couple were "both over the moon". They revealed they were engaged in December after announcing the pregnancy in September.

Corden appeared in teen soap Hollyoaks but got his big TV break in 2000 when he landed a role in the ITV1 series Fat Friends.

New search for French airliner

US oceanographers from Cape Cod are again teaming up with the French in the fourth search for an airliner that crashed in the sea during a 2009 storm.

Air France Flight 447 was heading from Rio de Janeiro to Paris with 228 people on board when it crashed hundreds of miles off north eastern Brazil in June 2009.

The plane and its flight recorders have not been found in previous search missions, preventing the cause of the crash being determined.
